The issue here

Appears to be the old coverage issue. The carrier is who I would call since no area I know of, to this date has found Asus building cellular networks.

My advice is to get a landline if cell coverage is spotty at home. I can attest that Sprint (a carrier in my area) was pretty spotty to bad coverage at my home. My fix? Change carriers.

Check in your Network if it is 2G/3G or 3G only. Make it 3G only. I was having this issue on my Lenovo. It seems the phone is unable to read 2G bandwidth for me.

won't work if the signal strength of the cellular network is insufficient where you use the phone. Check your coverage area with your cellular carrier. Best of luck.
