Question

Network sharing issue

Sep 29, 2018 12:16AM PDT

Hi. So here's the deal. My provider installed a router (which i'm not allowed to change) that works well on wired but the wireless is more then weak. So i added a second router that i use for the wifi in the house. All good and well till there, but now i have no idea how could i put my wired PC in same network with my Wireless Laptop to share files. Is that even possible with the second router plugged in? thnks for the help. cheers

All wireless routers I know have LAN ports also to connect your PC to, if networking between laptop and PC doesn't work when the PC is connected to the providers modem/router.

Answer
There are two methods to connect a second router.

1. An Ethernet cable from the new router's WAN port to the old router's LAN port.
This is noted as Double NAT and shares do not work across the two LANs.

2. 1. An Ethernet cable from the new router's LAN port to the old router's LAN port.
This is setup (google this) as "Router as a WAP." Which makes it one bigger LAN and unless a firewall is enabled (can be in routers or PCs or other) then shares work just fine within the limitations of the share.

reset?

try to unplug the router, hold reset button with a paper clip for around seconds, continue with the button pressed in while plugging power back into the router and continue holding for 25 more seconds.
