Network setup problem on XP's

Nov 24, 2004 11:00AM PST

Trying to connect two pc's at home, both with windows XP, by crossover cable. I got the connected at 100 mbs icon in both but I can't see the other computer in "View workgroup computers" nor shared files. I've followed the wizard instructions for both.
The ethernet card in both cases are working ok, according to device manager, though they are not identical (different manufacturer).
When I tried "repair connection" in my guest PC a message reads "...failed: Renewing the IP address.
This is my first network try
Thanks for your advice.

Repairing the connection will fail with your setup, since there is no DHCP source to assign IPs.

As long as the workgroup names match, firewalls are down, and you have shared folders/drives, you should be set.
