Question

Network Rules

Apr 24, 2015 5:09AM PDT

Hi,

I'm really hoping someone might be able to offer me some help and advice..

I currently have a Virgin Media Superhub running my main internet, however I also have a Netgear Extender and TP-Link Powerline with Wifi connected to it.

Basically the problem I'm having is I use MAC/IP address filtering to limit the hours my kids can go online and it generally works really well..

However I can only do this using the Virgin Media Superhub and have to block them completely from the Extender and TP-Link (Wifi).

As when they connect to the TP-Link or Extender it will allow they MAC address and IP address to connect and work during blocked hours.

I was hoping someone might have an cunning plan that might help me work out a way of allowing them access to the TP-Link and Extender during normal hours, then not allowing them access during block hours.

Hope that makes sense!

Cheers for reading!

Since the extender has it's own IP then NAT could apply and you have to apply the rules to the extender IP's as well.

I don't use extenders any more. Just routers as WAPs.

I get what you're saying.. However in doing that, wouldn't that block all users from the extender and powerline.

i.e. Myself and my partner wouldn't be able to get onto it..

I to am thinking about just getting a couple of routers and hard wiring them in around the house..

See free ones online every now and then.

Could.

Test and such. As to the routers, remember I use "router as a WAP" to avoid double NAT and it's problem.
