Network Problems...

Nov 25, 2003 7:38AM PST

I am running a network with 2 computers and I've ran into a problem. Only one of the computers is accessing the internet. The computer did connect earlier but I think a file was accidentally deleting, thus creating this problem. I believe I need to install or reinstall a certain driver, but I have no idea what driver to install. The unoperable computer is on Windows 98SE and for a bit of information all other networking features work (like shared network files), only internet access is disabled. Thanks for any help.

"Tip: If you are asking for help to troubleshoot a computer-related problem, please be sure to include all the necessary information (ie: operating system, model number, hardware, software, etc) that will help others identify your problem for a speedy resolution."

NO DRIVER IS INDICATED AT THIS PRESENT TIME. Yes, I meant to shout that since nothing in your post points to this as the cause or cure.

http://www.wown.com/j_helmig/guide.htm covers most aspect of windows networking and to troubleshoot your LAN, you'll have to write how your LAN is configured, if it ever worked and more.

What is the OS on the other PC?

Perhaps ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) has been disabled?

Are the two PCs networked via a Router or Hub/Switch?

They are on a 4-port Linksys router. The working computer is using Windows ME. I might be wrong but I am pretty sure internet connection sharing is on because the two computers have worked together previously and only when I deleted some things from the formerly working computer did the internet shut down on me.

By the way if it is of any importance all lights for the broken computer on the router are on and responding fine.

What ever you did in the first place to connect the PC to the router and get internet access, well, do that again.

Linksys or ICS. MAKE A CHOICE.

You'll want to decide which method of sharing the internet you want to deploy.
