Network Printing/Scanning

May 8, 2006 6:31AM PDT

I purchased a cheap Lexmark Printer/Scanner (x1195) for $50 in lieu of purchasing $60 in printer cartridges for my 5+ year-old Lexmark printer. The quality was getting pretty poor on that old printer anyway. The question I have is: if I were to use a D-Link network print server to share this new printer on my network (instead of going through LPT1 on one of my machines and sharing it), would I be able to make any use of the scanner from any of the machines on my network assuming full drivers are installed on all machines? I?d like to have the printer be a stand-alone network machine rather than having to power on the machine it would be directly connected to.

I assume I would be able to share the printing function using the print server, but I?m not sure about the scanning function. I?ve never had a scanner before.

Thanks?Mark

Every time I'd set that up, it turns it into a printer.

No scanner functions... HP used to have a networkable printer/scanner but this is a feature you may not find in lowcost multifunctions.

There is a new solution - D-Link

D-Link has the first print server made for multi-function printers. I don't know if your printer is one of the ones supported, but it is worth a look.

You can find the DPR-1260 here:
