Network Help

Oct 2, 2004 2:07AM PDT

I just helped another section upgrade to Windows XP Pro. The problem is that I can see the wired network, but I cannot connect to it, although I can access Network resources(E-Mail, Internet). I also cannot see the newely upgraded computer on the network. The current system is a Dell with 256 of RAM, and a wired network from our Hospital system. The old system was W 98.
Any assistance or suggestions would be great.
Thanks
Jim

IP address is the same, PING works, and I am sending and recieving packets. The computer name is the same as before (when prompted for name at set-up, used the same former name) Resources set to share?? HMMM this may be the problem, where do we check that?
Thanks for such a prompt reply and any further asstiance would be great. Monday will be here before ya know it.
Thanks
Jim

"IP address is the same"

this is wrong as each computer needs its own IP address, usually in the 192.168.1.X range.

"Resources set to share??"

this is some folder shared by accessing its Properties page. If nothing is shared there is nothing to see.
