I found no speed gain over this or putting the USB 2.0 drive on my router. There are plenty of articles about testing NAS speeds and all are a fraction of the connection speed when it's connection is on my PC.
This is why I use a sync app (FileZilla and Roadkil) to copy up files so I don't have to want for Windows File Explorer.
I want to set up a hard drive available from the network. Are there any cheap hard drives that use an ethernet connection? My router only has a USB 2.0 port but has Gigabit ethernet ports. If not I'll just have to cope with the USB 2.0 speeds.
