Network Connectivity and Leopard

Nov 28, 2007 9:01AM PST

My configuration is a Dell Dimension 8400 XP/SP2 and a MacBook. The Dell is network cabled to a 2Wire Gateway; the MacBook connects to the Internet in wireless mode thru the 2Wire. Prior to upgrading from Tiger to Leopard, I could easily do file and printer sharing between the Dell and the MacBook; in either direction.
I installed Leopard and the connection to the Internet works well but strange things began to happen with my local network. Neither computer could browse shared folders on the other. After much fiddling, I am able to read/write to folders on the Mac from the Dell if Sharing & Permissions for the folder on the Mac have been set as read/write for "everyone". If permission is set to read/write for any other account (even the administrator), it won't work.
If I try and access any of my shared folders on the Dell from the MacBook, I'm asked for a user name and password. All attempts to access are rejected, even with the administrator's user name and password.
I have it from a "consultant" that there are network issues with Leopard. Has anyone encountered them? Are any fixes extant?

"everyone" is everyone with an account.

It is not "anyone". The difference is subtle and worth discussing.

Thanx for your response. There is only one account on both the Dell and the MacBook: namely me, the administrator.

If you see that logon, password box...

You have not corrected the account issues. I'm going to keep my answers short since I can't write tutorials.
