Resolved Question

network connection problem.

Jul 31, 2013 4:30AM PDT

MacBook Pro 15 in. OS X 10.8.2, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
Problem Connecting.
"Another device on the network is using your computers IP address ( numbers here)(***.***.*.**)
Try connecting again later. If you continue to have problems, change the IP address of this computer or the IP address of the other device. Contact the network administrator if you nee more information."

I get this message every so often on one of my MacBook Pros, more on one than the other.
What can I do to stop this from Happening? I turn off my Mac router and back on that fixes it but I don't want to do this every time I wake my computer.

It's a flaw in IP networking.

And not a sign there is any issue with your laptop. Since this issue has been with us for over a decade I bet you wonder why.

Did you try changing the Wireless DHCP address reservation, range (that's in the router by the way) or tell your apple laptop to forget this network and do over (on the laptop?)

I've given you 3 ideas and sadly a clue this is one very old issue. It makes you wonder why this old issue is still with us. I know why.

"It makes you wonder why this old issue is still with us. I know why."

Can you tell me why?

"Did you try changing the Wireless DHCP address reservation, range (that's in the router by the way)"

How do you do this?

"Tell your apple laptop to forget this network and do over (on the laptop?)"

How is this done?
Thanks

Why?
Jul 31, 2013 6:18AM PDT

We got here because of a battle long ago over network protocols. As our government paid for the work, it was free for all to use, WARTS AND ALL. So it's all about the money and some folk don't want to know that this is a good system but far from perfect.

--> How do you do this?

I have to go get the router manual and find the section on that.

--> How to make the Apple forget a network connection?

This one is a bit easier. But I may upset you as it's best you type that question into an internet search engine. It's been discussed before and better answered than anything I can craft here.

I FORGET ONE ITEM!

Sorry but you may see this if the Ethernet and WiFi is connected at the same time. It's an oddity and not really a bug.

Sorry I forgot to list that.
