Resolved Question

Network connection and aliases

Dec 19, 2014 3:12AM PST

I have a pc running Windows 7, and an old mac G4 running OSX. Windows can see files on the Mac, but when I try to connect to the pc from the Mac, I enter the password for the machine, named "ATHEIST", and the following error message comes back: "The alias 'Atheist' could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found". I cannot figure out what this is all about. Also, I could use a little help with expanding the range of files visible to the pc from Windows; currently all it can see is one subfolder.

Problem solved

I finally realized where the problem was on this issue. Everything on the Mac side was working just fine, but I hadn't taken the necessary steps in Windows to identify and label the disk that I wanted the Mac to be able to see.

I found the answer to this question. Everything on the Mac was working fine, but I hadn't properly identified in Windows what volumes the Mac was allowed to see.
