Usually nw drivers won't uninstall unless the hardware, ie. nw card for it, is present. There should be no harm leaving the drivers on your system. You can use any plug and play 10/100 ethernet PCI card which has Win2K driver. Pick one you can return if by chance it doesn't work. Remove old card and install new card in its slot before booting PC and letting PnP detect it. Then follow instructions to install its driver.
I have dell dimension 8100, with win2000pro.
My net work adapter( 3com3c920- 3c905c txcompatible) has been burned with lightning. I am able to conect to internet via USB port. I have 2 problems now.
1) I have 4 network dirvers listed under nw adapters in device manager which I installed by mistake from the internet while trying to fix my burned card. I can not delete these nw drivers with device manager. I get the message saying" failed to delete.Device may be needed to boot the computer. 3 of the drivers are listed as " unknown device" and 4th one as"winport moni(ip)with yellow exclamation mark. Is there any utility/soft ware to remove these drivers from the registry??
2) Which would be the best ethernet adapter to insatll and do i have to remove the old one or can i install the new onw in different slot?
Thanks
