Network adapters

Jul 26, 2004 2:22PM PDT

I am trying to set up a wireless network with three computers. I bought a Linksys wireless-G router to put on my Micron PC (Win 98SE, with cable internet). The other two are both Dell with Win. XP, one a new desktop, which has a network connection (Intel Pro V/100) and the other is a 2-yr-old Dell 2600 laptop with a 3Com 3C920 Integrated fast ethernet controller and an 02Micro 0Z6912 Cardbus controller.

I bought two wireless adapters for the Dells, a WUSB54G for the desktop and a WRC54G notebook adapter. I am now finding that I have no adapter on the Micron, so I can't set this up yet.

I am not clear on is first, whether I really needed to get those particular wireless adapters for the two Dells if adapters came with them. Second, what do I need to get for the Micron to make this work (the USB adapter is only for Win. 2000 and XP)?

One guy at Linksys said I needed to get an adapter for it but since I kept getting cut off with them, I don't know exactly what kind.

Any help would be appreciated as I have a very anxious teenager here.

Thanks,

Gwen

Odd, I picked up a Linksys USB WiFi dongle and it's running on WIndows 98 without a hitch. I'm unsure where your issue is.

It is in setting up the router on the Win 98 computer. Apparently I need an ethernet card for it in order for the router to get set up. I did not know this at the time I bought the router and wireless adapters for the other two computers. I need to know what adapter to get for the computer that the router will be hooked up to.

98 drivers. These are commodity items. And at the price, there isn't any support, but a PCI NIC with drivers is from 5 to 25 dollars all over.

They do work with 98.

Is this the issue?
