Network access

Dec 10, 2009 11:03PM PST

I just purchased a Toshiba satellite with Window Vista.I set it up on my wireless network with my desk top which has win xp pro.
The internet works fine, I can access my win xp from vista with no problems. From my xp system I can see Vista share folder but I can't access it.Is asking for admin.rights. I'm not familiar at 100% with Vista, so I would like to get some help to solve this problem. Are no passwords or restriction set on Vista.

Sounds proper.

Let's get 2 machines and cover a basic item.

ACCOUNTS!

Let's say the XP machine has accounts Bob and Jerry.
Let's say the Vista machine has the new account called Jerry.

Bob would have troubles accessing the Vista machine as he has no account.

Passwords and admin accounts DO NOT MATTER HERE.

This is your basic "101" course in Windows networking so let's see how you did with the accounts.

Also, any Norton and such will firewall off this access. You didn't tell what protection software so I won't cover that.

Hi Bob,

The XP system is named IBM and the Vista system is named Shelley. Both systems are pert of the Workgroup.
Please advice with more details if possible.

Thank you.

Not a machine name issue.

I wrote about accounts so if you are willing to live with the CONSEQUENCES you could enable the guest account. This and your firewall, antivirus settings are the usual.

Have a look at Grif's We do it this way, see if that points you in the right direction.
