Netster go away

Nov 29, 2003 12:48AM PST

I've been trying to connect to a website for two days. When I click on it on the address bar at the bottom, the URL appears for an instant on the toolbar but almost immediately changes to netster.

I've had a free computer help person look at the registry. He also had me try IE repair and had me unintall IE6 and get IE5 restored. Find turned up a couple of netster entries which I deleted. I ran across a PestPatrol ad saying it could rid me of netster but I've have to buy it for I think forty dollars. Before I do that, I thought I'd see if anyone knows a cheaper way to get the job done.

I have Windows 98SE, a 900 speed with 320 on the hard disk. I connect via AOL but switch to IE to browse. (I'm not using the right terminology because I can't remember it, but I hope you understand what I mean).

Thanks, Jerry

Re:Netster go away or "My browser has been hijacked."

I noted five scanners at what I labeled the Anti-Parasite Suite that usually help find the parasite that may be hijacking your browser. Here's the link to that -> http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6132-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=1313&start=0

If after removing the bugs the problem remains, look for HIJACKTHIS and get help in using that tool to understand what it reports. DO NOT delete all that it reports.

How about sharing the specific URL...

with us because it actually sounds more like someone didn't renew their registration or hosting and had obtained the registration or hosting (probably hosting) through Netster--they are a hosting/registration organization.

They just change their 404 page to redirect you.

Thanks to Bob and Edward

The URL is www.bel-rae.com which is the site for a vet school my daughter attends.

A tech at HelpOnThe.Net had me run AdAware, Skybot and HiJack and he found nothing. HouseCall apparently is too busy right now to run it.

I'm looking forward to Edward seeing if he can connect to the URL. If not, I presume he is right.

Thanks again. Jerry

Fred is right

Bel-Rae's website, www.bel-rae.com, is no more; the domain has been taken over by netster. I am told that Bel-Rae's right to the domain expired in September and a few days later was snapped up by Netster, and that Netster does this in a regular basis.

Thanks for the help. At least, now I won't be inveting $40 in PestPatrol to get rid of netster.

Glad you found out what happened and now a question -- Who is Fred?
