Netgear Wifi Extender WN3000RP

by janehake / July 14, 2014 4:18 AM PDT

I have this little gadget and it was working fine.... all set up and my laptop connected, etc. Then I took my laptop away and when I came back, it will no longer connect with Internet Access. The lights are all on on the Extender. The laptop finds the Extender in the list of Networks, and it connects but will not give me Internet access. I've tried unplugging the extender, resetting the extender, and twisting my nose while holding my breath. Nothing seems to work.

I am using an HP laptop, Windows 7, on a BT Infinity network. I also tried connecting my Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone (wifi connection) and get the same thing: it connects, it says, but no Internet.

What am I doing wrong?

Maybe nothing.

BT is known to update their gear behind the user's nose so go over all of BT's settings and then try connecting to BT's own gear directly. If the extender fails, consider it failed and get it replaced.

Thanks, but I'm not sure that was too helpful. I have the little 15 page booklet that came with the extender, but they're assuming the consumer knows more than I do, at least. On page 8 it says "Once the Extender is powered on..... you can use any wireless network manager utility on a PC to find and connect to the Extender wireless network." OK... now where do I find this "wireless network manager utility" in Windows 8.1?

Yesterday I was trying to connect my laptop (Windows 7) to the Extender but that didn't work. So I brought them both inside the house, as suggested in the Netgear booklet, to try to set it up closer to my router.

My BT router is connected to my PC via an ethernet cable and my PC is Windows 8.1. Could either the ethernet cable or the Windows 8.1 be the problem?

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
