Netgear WGT634U connection trouble

I am trying to connect my Netgear wireless 108Mbps router. When connected to my laptop through the router (the LAN port) my connection reads limited to no connectivity.

When I look for my wireless network it does not show up. The Netgear is currently on default setting so no security should be in place. I have a Westell modem model 6100 that works fine when I connect to it directly without the router.

When I'm trying to connect through the router, the internet light, the wireless light, and the LAN light are on. I have already rebooted and followed the instructions Netgear has given me. I was just hoping there was some way to salvage the router, if it is the router that is giving me problems.

while wired to one of the ports, there are two options. Try another port and replace the router.

You are sure that the NIC in the PC is good?

How about trying a factory reset with the little button on the router?

I used a different port, which made no difference. I held down the factory reset button, but to no avail connectivity was still listed as "limited or no connectivity."

Also the NIC in the PC is good. I have used the wireless on other networks and it worked fine.

I did buy a linksys wireless-G WRT54G2 router. But after reading many of the forums looking to fix my problem I am doubting my purchase. Would using the linksys be recommended over trying to fix the current netgear router?
