Netgear VueZone owners --service is being discontinued

Just an FYI for Netgear VueZone owners or potential buyers of it. Netgear is discontinuing their service on Dec 31, 2017 and your VueZone cameras, base station, and service after that date will be rendered useless.

I would advise those who are looking at this system to not buy it as you will be disappointed in the short lived usage. I would go for their newer camera system Netgear Arlo.

Here is the email notification I was sent:

BTW if you are VueZone owner, check your email for...

a special offer from Netgear for a pretty decent discount on the newer Arlo system. I will be upgrading my system to it.

and a couple years from now...

you will be getting an email about ario system being discontinued Happy I was actually looking at those cameras a few weeks ago. Glad I did not get them.

At least they are providing notification and giving some type of discount, unlike tcp who did not even send an email to their customers when they discontinued their bulbs and cloud service a couple of weeks ago.

on a side note, a good business opportunity - maybe someone needs to form a company that buys the rights for discontinued home automations and continue with the service. Not everyone can afford to buy new equipment every couple of years.

Hey there renegade600

I agree that not everyone can buy a new equipment. The good news, I just got another email from Netgear saying that because of the overwhelming feedback (most likely they got a lot of backlash on shutting down the service and discontinuing the devices), they have extended the service. Here is a copy of the email:

"Dear valued VueZone customer,

On July 1, 2016, NETGEAR announced the planned discontinuation of services for the VueZone video monitoring product line, which was scheduled to begin as of January 1, 2018.

Since the announcement, we have received overwhelming feedback from our VueZone customers expressing a desire for continued services and support for the VueZone camera system. We have heard your passionate response and have decided to extend service for the VueZone product line. Although NETGEAR no longer manufactures or sells VueZone hardware, NETGEAR will continue to support existing VueZone customers beyond January 1, 2018.

We truly appreciate the loyalty of our customers and we will continue our commitment of delivering the highest quality and most innovative solutions for consumers and businesses. Thank you for choosing us.

Best regards,
The NETGEAR VueZone Team
July 19, 2016"

I did not receive that email. I have been running VueZone cameras for about 4 years. And, because of the Netgear notice of discontinuing service after December 31, 2017, I have started evaluating a replacement system. Thanks for the notice. I'll check it out with Netgear.

Hmmm I wonder why you didn't receive it.

Maybe your email address isn't current in their system? I received 3 notifications, first for the discontinuation, then an email about extending the service for another year, and then another for an offer to upgrade to the Arlo.

Did you get an offer to upgrade to the Arlo? I received it and already switched to the Arlo.

Re: discount

Why do you think you can get one?

wouldn't they want to keep costumers with them and have the costumer upgrade to there new system rather leave them and go to a different company?

Hi 04shawn,

Didn't you receive an email like I did from Netgear on a discounted Arlo system, when they first announced the discontinuation? I pretty sure they sent it to everyone on the old Netgear VueZone. I received two deals one for the first announcement, then another deal when they decided to extend the VueZone service.

Since I switched already taking advantage of the deal they were offering, I'm not too sure if they are still offering those deals on the Arlo. You may want to call their customer service to inquire about it.

Good luck to you!

you're welcome. Good luck!

Make sure you mentioned to them that you had heard about the offers but never received the emails about it.
