Question

Netgear R8000

Jul 18, 2015 1:33PM PDT

I'm trying to mess with the NAT settings so I can open it up for my game consoles. When I login to the router settings on my computer however, certain options are grayed out and can't be clicked. Of course, the options that I need to click (according to the NAT help guide I'm using) are some of those that are not clickable.

Some that I can't click are: WAN Setup, LAN Setup, Internet Setup, Setup Wizard, and a host of other issues.

Netgear only gives 90 days phone and chat support and you have to register your device to access the forums. The person who registered the device is unreachable for sometime, so I have no means by which to access the forums.

Google was useless in trying to figure this out, so I'm just hoping someone on here knows anything that might be of help.

Appreciate any assistance that is given.

Answer
Surely this is a common question.

But here, the XBox doesn't need any changes. The routers in stock form are fine. Why would one need to change this?

Also, why not put the game console into the DMZ?

Can't play online
Jul 18, 2015 2:04PM PDT

Because my NAT is strict. For the most part, this hasn't been a problem, but yesterday for some reason, I've found it to be impossible to play any games online. I can still get onto Xbox Live, but can't play games. May not be an NAT issue, I don't know. But figured I'd try to open the NAT to see if it might possibly fix this issue.

I'm afraid that's outside my realm of knowledge. Never even heard that term, aside from the military application of it.

I'd try the console in the DMZ.

The DMZ entry has always been in the router documentation so I'd try that first.
