Hi,
I see that on the netgear R7800 we can use the netgear firmware, the voxel, the dd wrt, the open wrt and the open wrt hnyman's build...
Someone tried those firmwares on the R7800 and can compare?
Thanks

I have used the stock firmware and open wrt on a few routers. I think it doesn't matter if it's a R7800 or other. Let me share a quick answer.
1. Open WRT has a lot more options so my view is it's for those that want to spend a lot of time learning about networking. Casual users? Only install if your router is rebooting and the maker's firmware doesn't fix it.
2. Stock firmware for 99+% of us is fine. I find less than 1 in 100 routers we see have other than stock.
That puts you into the head of the class and you would know that you have to seek out help where you can find it as well as from the VPN provider. Not all routers can do this trick.
That said I don't use VPN all the time. Just on travel so home use? Can't find a clear or good reason to go slower.
