I'd like to see it on multiple DVRs, set-top boxes, etc, but I doubt the providers will play. If DirectTV and Echostar can get in the game, I could see them, Tivo and possibly Apple getting involved.
You hit the nail though regarding the overnight download- it's all about moving users comfortably into an online version of the way they use netflix now, rather than failing when they expect to be able to watch the videos as soon as they "rent" them- through streaming or on demand or whatever.
I have opinions on this:
First, I hope it's not tied to only one provider or only one type of box, like TiVo. And I wonder why a cable co. would want to do this -- they have on Demand movies already, wouldn't something like NetFlix just compete with that?
I like the idea of choosing the download (or loading it on your queue, or sending back the old one, or whatever -- if they keep a plan similar to the way they have it set up now) and having it download overnight, so you don't have to wait for it.
I guess we'll have to wait and see.
