Netflix on BD-P1590 -- browsing outside the instant queue?

by jsevinsk / April 26, 2010 5:39 AM PDT

I've been very happy with the ability to play movies in my Netflix instant queue on my Samsung BD-P1590 player. However, after receiving my Netflix disc for the Wii, I found that not only will the Wii play movies from the queue, but it will also allow me to go outside the queue and browse their movie selection and add other movies to the queue. I also found that another brand's bluray player will let you do this too. Will the 1590 do this? I couldn't figure out how. It would be nice if it did.

jsevinsk,

Unfortunately, there is no way to browse the queue list outside of setting up for Instant Queue. To add movies to play on the Blu-Ray player, they must first be assigned using your Netflix account on your computer.

Your comments are helpful, and I'll be happy to send them up to see if that's a possibility in the future.

Thanks! I really would like that feature on the Samsung player, after seeing it on other players.

Netflix on Samsung BluRay Players

I have experienced the same LARGE LET-DOWN, when I found out we could browse Netflix movies on the Wii, but not on our Samsung BluRay player. Please do pass it on if you did not before. The movie quality is better on the Samsung, but the flexibility of the Wii trumps that. It sure seems like it should be available somehow if the Wii folks can do it, right?

erfman and all,

Netflix designed the widget to be used specifically with the player. Netflix writes the widget, so any functionality improvement would have to come from their team. I don't know if it's possible or not with the older players, but that process would have to start from the App owner.

Incidentally, our 2010 models do have that functionality, and that came by way of a firmware update. I don't know of any plans that Netflix has, but that doesn't mean that they aren't considering or working on it - it just means that I don't know, and can't speak on their behalf.
