Question

Netflix black screen after Samsung Smart TV update

Sep 5, 2015 1:12PM PDT

Ever since the smart hub on my Samsung Smart TV model UN46ES6150 automatically updated 3 days ago, Netflix will not come up, it just goes to a black screen. All other apps work, Hulu, Amazon, YouTube, etc. I have a tried logging into Netflix on the computer & ending all sessions, did not help. Samsung is remoting in now and trying the switch to a different country to uninstall & reinstall trick now. No good, still black screen. Now resetting Smarthub. In searching the forums, it seems this has happened before & it was some sort of Samsung problem, they had to turn on something on with regards to Netflix? Is anyone else having this problem? Or recently had it & fixed it?

Always call it in.

Samsung has a few other resets to do and I can't know them all. In rare cases Samsung changes the mainboard. Only a call to Samsung can get that done.

The first thing you would want to check is to make sure the firmware is up to date. Once that has been checked I would recommend reinstalling the Netflix application. Because of it being one of the Samsung Recommended apps, there's no way to just delete Netflix to reinstall it, therefore you would have to do what is known as a country code reset on the smart hub; to perform this, just following the instructions below.

First, you would want to go to Smart hub. On the main smart hub screen using your Samsung remote press fast forward, “2”, “8”, “9”, Rewind. Next a window should come up with a list of different countries. We recommend changing the country to Afghanistan or Andorra as these countries do not have the majority of the US apps. Once you select a country press enter and agree to terms and conditions. You would want to wait until the smart hub has completely deleted all the US apps and loaded in the foreign apps. Once the foreign apps are loaded in all you would need to do is follow the same sequence to bring up the country list and this time select the US. Everything should be installed back to normal.

Let me know if this helps!

Unfortunately I contacted Samsung and they said the only way they could fix the problem was for them to reset the tv to original factory settings.

They did warn me that I would have to change all the settings I had changed since I bought the TV and If I had paid to calibrate my tv when I bought it I would lose that also.
I also have to put in all my user names and passwords to sign in to my apps. It's a lot of work and money to fix something that was caused by the Samsung update.

We have a UN85H8000 with all the bell and whistles and it is a very big job to restore it to where it was.

I recommend that anyone who is going to do this write down your pictures settings before you get started.
