Netcsape e-mail ATTACHMENTS won't open

Suddenly a few weeks back I began noticing that my browser of choice, Netscape, could not open e-mail attachments, whether WORD or PHOTOS (specifically those coming in from Hotmail); when I go to open the attachment I get this message: "(The document) could not be saved because the source file could not be read."

Does anyone know why this is suddenly happening? Am I the only Netscape user affected? What can I do to correct this? (Note: The attachments open OK through IE, but I want to use Netscape.)

Sorry. . . Forgot to add: I am using Windows XP Home edition and Netscape 7.1.
