I've noticed a lot of hype about Netbooks and how popular they are becoming. I've also noticed that none of the netbooks I've seen advertised has a cd/dvd player. I can't understand why this portable device can't also be used for viewing a movie or pictures, or listening to music. It seems like a natural. I've got to be missing something. Is the objective of having a small computer only to view email and simple documents? Please set me straight.

Price, weight and size preclude an optical drive. Netbooks are just a connection to the Internet and intended for convenience and travel, not to replace real notebook computers.

CD and DVD players inside a Netbook

I have the 16 gig mini 9 plus 16 gig flash card plus 2 gigs ram.
I purchased software for a CD clone drive and also a DVD clone drive. That gives my netbook the possibility of playing movies and also having a CD in the drive for loading programs, etc. I use an 8 gig memory stick for putting the movie image or software image into the system. Works well. You will also need a program for making the images. I use to get the programs.
