so there's:
smartphones - htc's advantage is the most eggregious of them i think, but smartphones have basic computing ability (http://www.clintonfitch.com/wm6/htc/HTC%20Advantage.jpg)
mid's - like nokia's n810 - looks pretty much like the htc, and i think this works as a phone too... maybe not... but more web/email-focused (http://www.linuxdevices.com/files/misc/nokia_n810wimax_email.jpg)
umpcs/origami - like the OQO - this can run vista and costs a gazillion dollars - no phone but i think the new one has 3G(http://www.boygeniusreport.com/wp-content/uploads/oqo.png)
netbooks - eee PC - imho: sub 500$, <10", atom proc. of course this is what the debate is really over. i think ppl just want to cash in on the popularity, but then look at the vaio P, the not-book... lol, dbags
ultraportables - 13 inchers or ultralight lappies like the macbook air. full powered but still fits in my bag without herniating a disk.
laptop/notebook - mas-produced work horse bla bla
"desktop replacements" - like the badazz gateway or alienware - $$$ - usually require a handtruck or wheelbarrel to lug - can cook eggs on.
desktops/pc's - meh. ppl buy these still?
this prolly doenst solve your prob, but i think netbook and ultraportable are exclusive enough that im annoyed by the confusion...

Why not call "Netbooks" just Mini-Laptops, as apparently they are smaller then a "Standard" laptop, with a little less power. Although i use my Eee PC 901 as i would have used my Core 2 Duo 2.4 with 4Gb laptop (which got replaced by Eee), plus i don't have any complains with my Eee Box either, i can play a bit older games, and i can develop as much as "I" want. I did run five sessions of Visual Studio 2008 Pro on a out-of-the-box Eee Box B202.
If you want to call these Mini-Laptops "Netbooks", strip them off some of the features, and a bit of the power they provide. A "Netbook" should only be a device only design to surf the net, and nothing else , more like MID with a keyboard.
