Question

Netbook Speed Query

Jul 5, 2017 7:07PM PDT

Am considering a new laptop to replace the Toshiba netbook I casually use for travel; purchased in 2009 or so. I love it in all ways (compact size, keyboard, Win7, carry-case, etc.) but the speed is painfully slow. It’s clean of malware with the Atom processor (1.67 GHz); it has 1 GB RAM. Although my local guy says no, is there any hope of a hardware upgrade to save this relic?

Answer
Not really.

But we do pop in SSD to make the most of what it has. It's really not worth doing at that age PC but at the office we're crazy at times.

Thanks For Your Feedback

R. Proffitt,
Your words do me a good service in effectively nailing shut any comeback for my sweet-but-slow little netbook. Given the intended use (a compact unit for occasional travel) I have formed a set of criteria for a replacement. That product would be something short of cutting-edge, having a price tag to match. To assist in that search I will generate a second post that formally seeks some forum feedback. Please feel free to input.

I like your next choice.

I replied in kind about a very similar choice (the x200ca) and what we changed the HDD to.

Very nice machine for the road.
