Netbook - printer and video?

Dec 2, 2009 12:39AM PST

I am considering getting a netbook for my son since we can't afford a laptop right now. He mostly checks email, types word docs for school, and does French homework online (requires Quicktime). We have wireless at home. Would the netbook be able to communicate with our printer to print docs?

Also, I know video is not the greatest, but what about looking at YouTube videos...anyone have any personal experience with that?
Thanks.

Mine does that.

It's an older model and the new models do fine too.

However I find laptops for the same price so why a netbook?

Netbook vs Laptop
Dec 2, 2009 3:29AM PST

I really need something less than $400. Are there any decent laptops in that range that would be better than a netbook?

Yes.

About refurbished laptops...
Dec 8, 2009 10:45PM PST

I found the Toshiba you mentioned at our local MicroCenter. People have warned me to stay away from refurbished because you don't know how they've been treated, and only have 90 day warranty. I know it's hit and miss, but what are the chances of it lasting more than a year or two?

I noted this one

Because the refurb is done by mother (it's maker or under its makers supervision) and not some guy with a bottle of Windex.

There is also the IBM refurbs by you know who at https://www-304.ibm.com/shop/americas/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/default/CategoryDisplay?storeId=1&catalogId=-840&langId=-1&categoryId=2576396

Sorry but to discuss probabilities we have to dive in the science area noted at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Actuarial_science

In my experience the refurbs by the makers are best. If you go ebay, you're almost assured it was a Windex refurb.
