The generic should be fine.

Hi,
I am waiting to get a second hand motherboard to fix (going to try to anyway) my faulty Acer netbook...from the pictures of the motherboard it looks as though there needs to be some thermal paste applied to the CPU as it doesn`t look as though there is much there...this is all new to me and my query is...
is there much difference in the thermal pastes/compounds that are on offer on places such as eBay ? ..for example, there are syringes full of "thermal paste" that are priced at £1 or £2 ...I guess they are what would be called "generic" pastes...are they any good or is there something specific I ought to buy ? ...bear in mind the Acer and motherboard is a few years old anyway...
Hope you can help...
Thanks,
