.Net Framework in Windows Update

Dec 17, 2003 3:00PM PST

Do I need to install this update??? Running Win 98SE on a P-III 800, I've just upgraded IE from 5.5 SP-2 to IE 6. I'm not a programmer, just using a PC for banking purpose, surfing the web, etc... What I know, I've learned by myself (too young to ignore the technology and too old to start from the beginning). So when I see that I need this update if I'm using MDAC 2.6 or things like that, I'm lost. Thanks for the advice.

If only Windows Update is asking for .NET, then you don't need it.

The only updates you need to install are those listed as "critical updates." Those usually consist of bug fixes and security patches. "Recommended updates" are optional, and usually include descriptions that also (at least attempt to) advise whether you should install them.
