Net Framework 3.0

by mo_net / February 10, 2007 8:36 AM PST

Was just wondering if anyone knows if it possible to remove previous versions of net framework. The previous versions take up lots of disk space.

Can I safely remove them or are they needed for v 3.0 to work?

Running Win XP Pro, Office 2007 Pro.

Thanks...

All versions should be fully backwards compatible, and completely stand alone, so there is no need for older versions to be installed.

One Note About the NET 3.0 Install..

Even if you uninstall all your previous .NET versions, the new installation will install both 3.0 and 2.0 again.. Since 2.0 currently has some security updates, you'll need to revisit the Windows Update site to reinstall them..

So, although 3.0 is backwards compatible, it's not worth uninstalling 2.0.. Removing 1.1 and all it's security updates is OK though.. It will stay gone.

Hope this helps.

Will Remote Assistance Still Work Under .net v3 Without v1.1
by dee88di / February 17, 2007 4:05 AM PST

Will Remote Assistance still work if .net v1.1 is uninstalled? I never see it associated with v2 or v3 I feel Remote Assistance is one of the handiest features Windows offers and would not like to lose it.

As Mentioned Earlier..

..by Jackson, NET 3.0 is backwards compatible and all programs "should" work fine. There are no guarantees though.. You'll just have to try it.

Remember though, it's OK to leave the older NET 1.1 on the machine.. There's no requirement that it must be uninstalled in order to install 3.0.

Hope this helps.
