Nero error messege

Mar 4, 2006 2:25AM PST

Hello,
I have been trying to solve this problem for weeks now but failed. I was using nero 6.4. After a couple of days when I opened it, I got the messege "Nero StartSmart.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close..". I was given the option..send error report Or don't send. I read somewhere to update the version to 6.6. I did so, it worked for half an hour but again the
same messege. Then I purchased Nero 7, but now I end up with the same problem. I am using Win Xp professional, version 2002 (pentium 4). Help will be a
ppreciated. Thanks a LOT!!!

Isn't that a virus?

Smartstart.exe vs. StartSmart.exe leads me to believe you need to research and scan online for a possible virus.

reg. errors
Mar 4, 2006 3:04AM PST

it could be a reg. error that is preventing some programs from operating

If so, then that's one severe error. Here's why.

For the name of said .exe to become corrupt as noted, that would almost indicate the machine and the installed OS is suffering greatly.

Or... some virus/trojan/pest did it.

The name you supplied was noted to be a pest (virus?)

All I can ask is that you re-read your posts and if you supplied the incorrect name, we can wipe or lock this post and start over.

"NeroStartSmart.exe"
Mar 4, 2006 4:45PM PST

all right I went through my posts and the name of the program is "NeroStartSmart.exe". I was told somewhere the problem might be "when you use the same serial more than once(which I did as I installed uninstalled and then tried to install again)Nero sends the serial to its site to see if its new. I was installing it again so they recognised the serial to be a cheat(crack) and they turned off NeroStartSmart. the solution was that I turn on my firewall so that when Nero tries to connect with its site, I disallow it and Nero will continue to work. But i don't know how to do that. I have Windows XP servicce pack 1. I have activated the firewall but after installing again....it worked for a couple of hours and then the same story.......

I have uninstalled

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Nero and mine works just fine.

If you have a legitimate version and serial number, it will work.

I will leave the rest of this up to Bob

I am using
Mar 4, 2006 7:16AM PST

I am using Windows ME and Nero 6.6.1.4 and I have no problems.

Uninstall Nero and restart your computer.

Install one item at a time and restart your computer.

After you have the three irems install and have restarted your computer download the updates from the website

http://ww2.nero.com/enu/Downloads.html

After you install the updates(by date)you should not have any problems. If you do have problems, It's probably because you have a virus like Bob said. If that is the case, you'll have to remove the virus to get the program to work.

Hope this helps.
