I wouldn't worry too much about the computer connectivity. GPS devices come with maps of the US and Canada, usually. As for map updates, those don't happen very frequently, so you could probably update the device for her once every two years and it would be fine.
A couple of other thoughts on GPS devices for parents: make sure you get one with a decent sized screen, and an external volume knob is very useful.
I have decided to get my mom a gps for christmas. Ive done a little bit of research and am thinking of going with the garmin nuvi 200. The question I have is my mom does not have a computer and was wondering if this is going to be a big problem. I have seen that alot of them need to be connected to a computer to download new maps, ECT. If anyone can help me of direct me to a site that is more GPS orientated I would apreciate it thank you.
