Need urgent advice on AUDACITY digital recording software

Nov 7, 2005 2:11PM PST

I am a newby. I carefully followed all instructions on connecting hardware (i.e tape recorder with single-stereo plug to input mike jack of my laptop); installed Audacity & LAME add-on for MP3. I wanted to convert audio cassettes to MP3 for recording on CDs; also record few select tracks on WAV for better frequency response factor (on CDs). Instead of indivudual tracks, I recorded entire one side of the cassette as "Audacity project file"...ran "normalize" and "noise reduction" ...punched the "save" button again, as instructed. Then I converted the entire file by using "export to MP3". Later I made anversion "export to WAV" to check out. Then I used NERO to burn both as seperate "Music CD".
(i) I find that the MP3-CD can be played on my PC using a programme like MAX Gold. But not on my multi-system DVD/CD-R/CD-RW/MP3 player. (ii) The WAV-CD cannot be played on my normal CD player...What am I doing wrong ? PLEASE HELP ME.

Wav and MP3 CDs are for "smart" CD players.

Hi Bob ! What do you mean by saying you would have simply made an audio CD ?

AudioCD defined.

It's the type of CD that plays in most player and what you get at the music store. i.e. AudioCD. It's a standard you can read all about at the CDR FAQ on google.com

From what I've read, you are not making the old standard CD.

After you save you must write. Saving just saves the song file in the Audacity format. Write will create a .wav file that you can just grab and convert.
