Need TV antenna advice

Sep 7, 2008 8:51AM PDT

What kinda of antenna would I need to pick up the regular free channels (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, etc.) if the physical location of those stations are over 50 miles away?

Is there a indoor antenna that can receive signals from that far? Or would I have to purchase a large outdoor antenna?

I'd say it's going to be a large external. BUT...

Reading http://www.dtv.gov/ it's not a good investment as sometime in Feb 2009 you'll be able to get that antenna for free. Not that it will do anyone any good.

tied to your specific location.

Yeah, considering the distance, I'm guessing you will need a fairly large external antenna.

I'm a little over 100 miles from my station and I just have a TERK amplified antenna in my living room. My signal strength is usually around 100% for most stations but at about 75% for CBS. I do get all the stations though and some PBS stations as well. 13 total. I live in the mid-west so is relatively flat and very little obstructions between my house and Iowa.

P.S.
I think the TERK was about $40. at Best Buy.
