Need to Refresh IE 6.0 after every link

Jan 27, 2005 4:47AM PST

I'm running XP Pro and IE 6.02 on a Dell x300 laptop. My problem is after clicking a link on something like Google, or other link sites, I have to refresh everytime after opening a link. It doesn't seem to matter if I right-click/Open in New Window, or left-click, I get the same problem. I've run Norton Anti-virus, and Ad-Aware & Spybot, and that hasn't fixed it. I tried doing a web-install of IE over the current one, but that didn't fix it. I tried Mozilla Firefox, but I couldn't see my email attachments, among other things, so I went back to IE.
Anybody have any idea how to fix this annoying problem?

If you already have Firefox ...

you're nearly halfway of the following scenario:

1. Download (on another computer) firefox from www.mozilla.org and burn in on cd, or order their installation cd.
2. Use firefox to download ieradicator. Run it, and gone is IE.
3. Then use firefox to redownload the ie6.0 setup from microsoft and use that program to reinstall ie. Then go to windowsupdate for SP1.

It has a good chance to work, and things won't become worse, I think.

Whether something got screwed up in the meantime I wouldn't know, but download and use "IEFix" - a general purpose fix for Internet Explorer (Win 98/ME/2000/XP):

a. Registers Urlmon.dll, Mshtml.dll, Actxprxy.dll, Oleaut32.dll, Shell32.dll, Shdocvw.dll, [Q281679].

b. Refreshes Internet Explorer using IE.INF method. Note:

? "Unable to Install Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP (Q304872)"

? "How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP (Q31837Cool"

c. Initiates "SFC /Scannow" (Win2K&XP), [Q310747].
