Need to get rid of data on hard drive

by mc_bob / April 5, 2009 3:26 PM PDT

I was given an external 250 gig hard drive. I'm trying to get rid of the software that's included with it (likely not on the hard drive but rather the board attached to the hard drive). I opened it up and looked around and when the drive is hooked up and turned on, the partitions of the drive show up in my computer as well as a CD drive with the software on it.

My question is whether or not I can get rid of that bundled software (since it's read only and showing up as a CD drive) and if not is there any other suggestions on doing something with the drive so that it doesn't automatically load the software?

It's a acomdata, 250 gig external drive (well the drive is western digital technically. Any info or suggestions are appreciated.

All you need do is do a little search for 'wipe drive' and

you'll get a ton of suggestions/options for clearing data from the drive.

No point repeating what's been answered many many times.

the data on the drive isn't what I want to wipe out, it's what's on the board attached to the drive. swapping the hard drive itself with another one still had that "CD" pop up when I connect it to my computer via the external casing. what I need is to know whether or not it's possible to wipe out the data on that board and if so how.

What information do you think is stored on the logic board ?

In reply to: .

And you want the drive to work after you've wiped the logic board or no ?

Only thing it retains that I know is the drive firmware, the use info...i.e. power on hours, max temp, serial number, etc.,

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
