Question

Need to get Netgear WNR2200 working with wireless internet

Apr 23, 2015 5:14PM PDT

Hi all

I've got a Netgear WNR2200 with two IP cameras on it that I'm using to surveillance out the front of my house after some dodgy stuff happening in my street.

So both cameras are connected to the Netgear router. My laptop connects wirelessly to the router, and records the camera feeds. This Netgear modem currently is not connected to the internet. However, I also have wireless internet via a Telstra Pre-Paid 4G WI-FI modem, but to use the internet, I need to change the wireless network on my laptop to the Telstra modem, which means the cameras are no longer recording because I have changed network from the Netgear modem to the Telstra modem.

Is there some way that I can connect the Netgear modem to the internet via the Telstra one? I'm regularly needing to use the internet, but I don't want to cut off the camera feed recording each time.

Also to note - the Telstra modem doesn't have an Ethernet port, so if it is possible, then I would need to somehow connect the two modems together wirelessly.

Any help would be appreciated Happy

This one looks to be a mismosh of gear and more. You'll want a network tech to come out, plan a new setup and document how they solved it.

If you wanted to do it over.

Try a more normal home network. That is the usual internet modem then a router (some are combo units) then add your video cams and PCs. The way you went about it is frankly messy and we only need one modem.

Prepaid set up

This sounds like, basically, a wireless air card...if I'm not mistaken, on a prepay basis for travel and portability. If that be the case, how could that link to another device to throw a signal to run such as remote cameras? Sounds as if he needs a real set up, server...modem/router or gateway set up. Unless I have missed something I don't see how what he's trying to do is going to fly.

Currently a mess plus.

I've run into folk that have 2 modem+routers and can't accept we only use one of those. Sure, you may have this gear but look around and to repurpose those is rare to never done.

So there it is, a mess to untangle and try again.

Easy Fix

Hi Jace ,

If u want to use the Telstra modem's internet then you really need some kind of extenders to connect to the IP cameras but I don't think that it will give you good speed via 4G .For your netgear router to get fixed try this following steps .

1) If light next to the power light is amber - reboot the modem and router .

2) If still the light is amber - Login to the router GUI using 192.168.1.1 > click basic settings > Select Use computer MAC address > Apply the settings >reboot modem and router .
3) If still the light is amber - connect the laptop directly to the modem using the Ethernet cable and check the internet .
Thanks ,
