General discussion

need to change the FROM field in a user's header ?

Sep 6, 2005 3:05AM PDT

I'm looking around for a way to change the FROM field in Outlook so that outgoing mail appears to come from our main domain address only. Currently, this user also uses Outlook to deal with mail from other accounts outside our domain. I've seen suggestions on changing the header information in Exchange, but this would affect all users, so my guess is that it's configurable through Outlook. We are using Outlook 2003. Any help is appreciated.

I have Outlook XP, not 2003, but they should be similar.

Anyway, if you click on Tools, E-mail Accounts you will get a window with some options on it. Make sure that ?View or change existing e-mail accounts? is selected and then click on Next. Select the e-mail account you want to change, then click on Change. Where it says ?E-mail Address:? you can put whatever you want and that is what the mail recipient will see as the return/sending address. Don?t change any other settings; that is the only one you need to change. Then click on Next then Finished and you are done.

Remember, these directions are for Outlook XP, not 2003, but they should be more or less the same.

I forgot to mention we have Exchange here, so any configs on that (default) account are global. You did answer my question, thank you. That's good information.
