Need Suggestion for In-car Camcorder for inside race car

Jun 14, 2009 9:29AM PDT

I am looking for a camcorder suggestion. The camcorder will be bundled up in some kind of foamy material and securely mounted on the inside of a demolition derby car. This will be a rough ride for the camcorder. My budget is 150-300.

My main concern for this thread is the recording media. Do I need a solid state recording media (such as flash-based) or will miniDV work okay? My second concern for the thread is what models would people recommend? I have a Canon ZR40 allocated for this project but I'm concerned about 1) I don't want to have tracking problems with the writing head against the tape and 2) one hour record time on one tape might not be long enough.

minidv should be ok

minidv should be ok for bumpy rides. you can record in long play mode for 90 minutes with no loss in quality

LP

I had read several times to avoid LP because footage might not be solid enough for playback. Its nice to know that tracking might not be an issue. I like the idea of the Canon FS100.
