Question

Need some suggestions on what router to get.

Feb 20, 2016 3:32PM PST

Hello,

Well i ran in to few problems since beginning with my old router.
TP-LINK WR541G

Problems:
1. Got internet speed from 100Mb/s + up and down.
- Routers max is 60 Mb/s i guess, cause cant push more than that.
2. When i'm downloading something, every things that need internet resources just starts to get lag spikes.
- For example:Buffering youtube videos, Buffering twitch.tv streams etc.
Never happened when i had a modem.

Don't get me wrong, that`s some old router, so i'm looking for a upgrade so it can support +100Mb/s and does not lag on downloading things.

Small apartment, up to 40 eur or so.

Youtube buffers at 60 megabits?
Feb 20, 2016 4:03PM PST

The problem is not the router. Here's Netflix and even UHD 4K is 25 megabits. It's something else going on here.

Let's hear about your old modem and your new internet service. I am getting folk posting like this when they switch to DSL.

Inside about situation
Feb 20, 2016 9:55PM PST

Well my internet service been here for 3-4 years from now, basically i had a modem all this time without WiFi adapter ( HG8240 ) that supports optical fiber (IpTV etc.). 108 Mb/s up and down.
Got the TP-LINK WR541G router:
- The biggest problem is that when i'm downloading something(Ethernet cable) everything that needs internet resources just starts to slow down for example buffering twitch.tv streams, (OTHER COMPUTERS also suffer from this). This didn't even happened once without the router.

So the question is: Can i get better router that lets through

That's a little clearer HOWEVER

This will never solve the WiFi is shared space issue. That's well done so I'll share that you may want to try a dual core router. I have a TP-Link C9 which at home streams netflix (HD) and Amazon without issue. I know Youtube goes well too. We do leverage the fact we have 2.4 and 5 GHz WiFi since it's still easy to clog up WiFi.

Be sure to keep things wired as much as possible to free up the WiFi space.

It is not WiFi
Feb 21, 2016 10:56PM PST

Its not WiFi issues, it's that my desktop computer in plugged into my Tp link router with ethernet cable. So when i'm downloading anything, everything else that need internet starts to lag tremendously.

I don't know your ISP.
Feb 22, 2016 8:05AM PST

While you may have a high connection rate from you to the ISP, it's possible their outbound link is a dog. Many ISPs install CDNs to help but I'm going to pause on that discussion.

If it's all wired, I wonder what's up since this is more than capable for YouTube. But if YouTube or your ISP is sluggish, well it's not your gear in trouble.

-> Here's an idea and it's only good for 20 minute videos. Look at using yout (hit the youtube you want, then change the youtube in the URL to yout, then you can download the MP4 and play it offline.

It appears all the trouble is YouTube and changing your gear won't fix that.

In parting, try the DNS of 8.8.8.8
