Need Some More Ideas Please.

Jun 21, 2007 1:10AM PDT

Hi Guys
I'm looking for some more things I might try to stop my PC from freezing or hanging.About 50% of the time it will happen when starting, the rest of the time it just happens randomley.I've tried everything I can think of and more.I now have just the very basic things at start up so reboot times are quick.I've run the adware and spyware programs I have (S&D,Adware2007) to try and correct this,I tried removing the side of computer thinking maybe it had something to do with heating up.Now I've pretty well run out of things to try so I'm hoping maybe somebody can give me some other ideas as to what I could try.Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.O/S is Win XP SP2 CPU 2.80GHz 512MB of ram.

Remove the case cover. Does it take longer to lockup?

Well no....

Well no but it doesn't happen with any regularity as far as say 5-10 minutes after start up.As I was saying earlier, sometimes it will freeze up during start up but other times it may be 20-30min. or even an hour after starting up.When I did try running it without the cover it would still do it at diff. times.

One more scan.

Try http://www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan/

But some details are missing here. Such as the machine's age, the make/model and if self built simple items like you decided to not use heatsink compound.

Looks like RAM or Processor probles
Jun 21, 2007 6:55AM PDT

Hi,

Usually this kind of behavior is caused by the following reasons:
1. a faulty RAM or processor
2. RAM or Processor are not securely fixed in slots. try taking it out cleaning and putting it back in.

It's only a couple of years old. I didn't put it together I bought it the way it is,the only thing I've done to it is put in more ram about a year ago.I'll try running that edwido scan.If that doesn't nail it I'll try what you recommended Usaf.I'll write back when I've done both and let you know how it went. Thanks a lot guys.

Hopefully

Hey Guys
Bob I ran the ewido online scan,it found about 15-20 tracking cookies which I know isn't much but since dealing with those it hasn't froze once in the last 24hrs.I know that doesn't seem like much time but it hasn't run that long without freezing in quite a while so hopefully that did it (touch wood). If it starts doing it again I'll give Usaf's idea a shot and see what happens. Thanks a lot for helping me out.

That's a clue.

If it hangs up, try this quick thing.

Run DISK CLEANUP and make sure the Internet Explorer items are checked then let it cleanup. After that, test...

If not, rerun the online scan and take a look at CCLEANER (see google.) Be sure you read what the options do in CCLEANER so you don't clean some item up that you didn't want to.
