General discussion

need some help with internet sharing!

Aug 22, 2010 3:16AM PDT

i have a desktop in my basement that is connected to the internet via a wifi usb adapter, meaning its ethernet port is left unused. right next to it i have a dish network vip 622 dvr box which has an ethernet port. if you can connect the dvr to the internet it allows me to watch my recorded media from anywhere. the problem is that there is no way for me to get a wired internet cord to where the dvr is, so i am wondering if anyone could give me some step by step instructions on how to set up my desktop to share its internet via an ethernet cable to the dvr box. thanks in advance!

Maybe you can bridge the two

While I've not tried this with a USB type adapter and you didn't mention your OS, it's often possible to bridge two network devices on PC. This, in effect, allows data to pass between the two.
