I am very willing to sacrifice some of those features....the stabilization for instance I can live without. But the HD, Optical Zoom, and 1080p are things that I would like to keep if I can.

Researching features generally means you have looked at specific camcorders because they have those features - At least, that's been my observation after helping around here a few years.
