need some help

Dec 12, 2003 11:57AM PST

I deleted everything from my hard drive to reinstall Windows 2000. The problem is that I deleted necessary files from my computer and now when I try to put Windows on my computer, the setup keeps looking for those files and without them the setup will not finish. How should I proceed to finish the setup or the get these files. Here is a short list of files missing...8514.fon, msttssyn.dll, redbook.sys, usbui.dll, ltmdmnt.sys

I appreciate any help. thanks
Brandon

Fill in the blanks?

Since you normally install the OS from the CD, I wonder if you are trying to install from a hard disk load?

Leaving such a detail out could hamper fixing this.

About that CD?

These files are on my Windows 2000 Pro CDs. So unless your copy is corrupt or is a "copy", then you look to failing RAM or CD drives.

Let me share that your post and response are very "light." Why not elucidate?

Yeah, it turned out that the CD was corrupt because when I installed windows 98, I had no problems with those files. The problem I have now is that when I'm doing anything in Windows my computer just restarts without any error messages.

Take them up on that offer. I run into such from time to time. Not an everyday occurance.

ABOUT that restart. Hardware issues abound when I see such. Let's try:

1. Pull the case cover and point a fan at the internals. Better? No change?

2. Put these words into http://www.google.com
BAD MOTHERBOARD CAPACITORS You'll find what you need to know about this bug.

3. POWER SUPPLY WATTS. What CPU and whatnot has this machine? And do you have a monster supply to feed it?
