Need some camcorder help

Hi, I want to buy a camcorder to shoot some art projects for college. I'm not bothered whether it's SD or HD only that it can record in 16:9, has a slow motion function, and possibly some sort of pro cinema mode.
Hoping to not spend more than about

I think I'd be leaning in the direction of the Canon with its 24p capability...

Take a look at both camera's manuals at the manufacturer web sites - you will see that both will do 4:3, 16:9 (standard definition) DV widescreen and HDV (by default, widescreen)

Thanks for that. I reckon the canon will probably be my best bet, but i'll have another look to be on the safe side

for some reason i thought the canon hv20 had a slow motion setting, but can't find it written anywhere. Is it true or not? If not, is the sony hc3 the only camera that has this. It's a toss between them two basically. thanks

Only certain Sony camcorders

have the "smooth slow record" feature. You can see what they have at sony.com

and the HV20 provides 24p capabilites

that the Sony does not. The Sony has a "fake" 24 frames per second "feature" but I have not heard good things about it.
