Question

Need simple prog to tag then retrieve photos

Sep 16, 2011 3:10AM PDT

I take a lot of photographs and have devised my own filing system that works quite well for my purposes. My OS is XP, but I am looking for a very simple program or software that only needs to tag and then retrieve tagged photos on command. Does anyone know what might fill the bill - free or paid, doesn't matter. Just need the technology. Thanks.

While I know I can tag JPEGs by putting information into the EXIF there is no app that can decode that my dog FIDO is in the picture and add that tag for us.

There is no such app today.

Windows Live Photo Gallery for Windows XP will tag and search photos. It's free, too, but I don't know if it qualifies as a "simple" program (and Bob, it has facial recognition, so maybe it WILL tag Fido for you, too!)

There's iTag. It may be simpler and more targeted to your needs. There's a free (max 3 tags per photo) and paid (unlimited tags) version.

I've never used either program before, so I can't comment on their performance. I'm sure Google will turn up others.
