Need remote control codes for ONKYO TX-SR674 AV receiver

May 31, 2008 7:59AM PDT

I have just switched to Verizon FIOS TV and am now trying to use the Verizon remote (Philips RC 1445302) to control my components including a TV, DVD and my TX-SR674 AV receiver. Using the codes supplied by Verizon, my TV and DVD are fine. I can operate and turn my TX-SR674 off, but none of the codes will allow me to turn the system on using the Philips remote. I have tried to search for other codes to try but can't find any.

Does anyone know why this is happening? Is there somewhere I can get access to other codes to try?

Tried many codes already

Thanks for the help, jostenmeat. I'm sorry--I wasn't really clear about what my problem is. I have searched online for remote codes and tried them all but none of them work. I even contacted ONKYO Tech Support. The codes that partially work will turn the receiver off but won't work to turn it on. I was hoping that maybe someone has the same set up as I do and found something that worked for them. Maybe the Verizon FIOS remote isn't compatible with my receiver--but I find that hard to believe

ahh

it appears you found the discrete code for "off" only. IIRC, onkyo might be funny this way... where they have discrete on/off codes, but don't always implement them into the remote or something?? please dont quote me on that.

all you need is either the discrete "on" code. or perhaps... if there is.. just the "power toggle" code. having discrete on/off is nicer for macro capable universal remotes. (less chance to go out of sync).

ive never seen a fios remote, or anything fios for that matter. sorry.

Sorry

sorry to tell you this, but its not going to work.

any higher end reciever like onkyo, yamaha, Hk,etc only use on and off codes not a toggle code for on and off, so you will have to buy a good universal remote to do this, like a harmony or a learning remote.

Hard to believe

We have a Harmony which we used with our Comcast set up and it worked fine. The Verizon remote is a lot more complex and we really like the way it is set up so wanted to try to use it. Do you think what we need to find is the code for turning it on and another code for turning it off? Is that what you're saying? (Sorry--not very good with electronics)

well, that's what it looks like

if your remote is not easily capable of employing DISCRETE on and off, then you simply might want to choose one, and employ the other command manually on the power button. I mean... if you really love your remote that much.

Me? I turn everything on and off manually now. I want to turn them on and off in a specific order, and I wait a specific amount of time between a couple of components. I use my Harmony for commanding the system otherwise. Works fine for me.

Im sure I could come up with a much better system, but I don't want to pay $2,000 for a high end remote. I like my POS bottom of the line superceded Harmony fine for now.

NO

the verizon remote just cannot do it, its the limitation of what it can or cannot do sorry.

most cable or other types of services use the cheapest type of box and remote to keep cost down for the customer, and this make them limited an what they can do

Thanks for the help everyone. We just wanted to make sure that it wasn't "operator error" on our part. We'll just deal with what we have. What is so strange is that the Verizon remote will turn off and on the Pioneer Elite TV we have and also the dvd player. It's just the receiver that won't work. Sounds like we will just use the two remotes--the Harmony and the Verizon remote to do what we need. Just wanted to check the problem out with everyone here and thought there would be someone out there that would know.
