Question

Need Remote Access to Windows 10 for Business

Apr 15, 2019 9:55AM PDT

I usually work on a Mac, but have a PC desktop at work. There are times when I need to access files and programs on my desktop from home. I'm trying to use Microsoft Remote Desktop to access the PC, but have not been able to connect yet. I'm using the latest version of Microsoft Remote Desktop on my Mac and Windows 10 for Business on the PC. I wonder if anyone might have some tricks for connecting,

OR if I should think about buying some inexpensive PC hardware that might be easier to work with?

Thanks for your help.

It's work so

That means the IT there has to set the router to allow that access. Since (again) it's work the IT there needs to do this so they know and lock down the security per the company rules. I've seen folk get called into HR over creating unauth external connections like this.

I am the Interim Executive Director for a nonprofit and have permission to use remote access.

You direct the IT staff to configure the router and PC to do all this. Someone controls that router so you need them to allow these connections.

There's another way to deal with the need to access files. Put them on Office 365's cloud or Apple's Cloud system and set the permissions to just you or those that need access. Any IT staffer today I know can set this up.
