I just set up a 5.1. atlantic technology speaker system and they blow away bose. Also check out Klipsch etc. The only Bose system I checked out sounded ok at low level but fell apart at high volume also overpriced good luck stewart If you check out other posts in you will find very few folks like Bose speakers

I had a set of Bose and sold them pretty quickly. They were OK for movies but were really bad for music. The problem is they have zero mid-range. I am now using Paradigm Studio series. I love them and suggest you give them a listen.

5.1 system. People underestimate their budget for good
speakers and are very disappointed with the end result.
The old rule of thumb was 50% of the total stereo budget
for a stereo system. With a television included, and
more speakers deemed necessary, the speaker budget
seems to have dropped to about 25%. WRONG.

Ultimately, the only part of your system your ears hear
is the speaker system. Don't slack on the speakers.

Look into the various KLIPSCH 5.1 systems, as well as
ACOUSTICS are also well looking into. BE sure to audition the ENERGY SPEAKERS ACT-6 system (dealers are
select and sometimes out of the way.) You might very
much like the BOSE AM-16 system. Don't let a basher
close your mind. Best wishes.

...Look at Polks, they have always been tremendous value for you dollar and Klipsch which have a very "you are there" midrange.
